-The Waterford Diehard Pairs tournament was completed yesterday on a glorious Fall Sunday in New York.  As luck would have it, the defending champions, Charles Crawford and Ryan Hastu came out of the hat as pairs again, much to the dismay of the participants.  After the morning session, there were a couple of teams with no losses.  Emerging as victors, Brian Flynn and Gene Kilgore proved to be too much for the field.  Tied for second place (each with 2 wins and a loss and a point differential of +5) were Charles Crawford with Ryan Hastu and Chris Braun with Steve Schulman.

     - The UK "Mini" Challenge took place late yesterday afternoon at NYLBC.  Visiting from Redland Green Bowling Club in Bristol, England were Vice-Captain Tony Stone and Vice-Chairman Adrian Miles.  This was part of the e-mail setting up the game from Tony...

"It would be no problem to bring our club shirts and playing shoes but it would of course be necessary to borrow some of your club woods, which I am sure you have. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated as it would give us a unique opportunity of playing at your green particularly in a competitive match, bearing in mind of course that we would not have played for 2/3 weeks and would also have unknown woods (it seems I’m already making excuses!!)"

So Les Winter and Chris Braun agreed to take their challenge.  With Alan Winson officating, your own NYLBC bowlers answered with a crushing 20-6 victory after 16 ends.  In all seriousness, they were wonderful guys whom we would welcome back anytime.  I got this snippet on their own club's website this morning.

"Further to Tony's information below I can report that the result of the International Challenge Match in Central Park New York yesterday was NY 20 Redland Green 6.  The comment I received was "On a sandpit of a green.  But really good fun.  You would have been at home with your straight woods!"   (Cheeky bugger ) "
